Coastal Yeehaw Half Recap

Coastal Yeehaw Half – Event Recap

Wow… what a ride! Recapping the first-ever Coastal Yeehaw Half is no easy task because the day was simply that special. With over 100 runners, incredible local support, and nonstop hype from start to finish, this event truly exceeded every expectation.

For many participants, this was their first-ever half marathon — and even their first race experience. Our goal with the Yeehaw Half is to create a welcoming, unsanctioned run that brings the community together and gives everyone a chance to connect with like-minded folks. There’s no winner here — it’s all about YOU, your experience, and the collective energy we create together.

From matching bandanas and echoing cowbells to pots-and-pans cheer squads, lively water stations, and a stunning beachside route, the good vibes were endless. This might officially become the “half marathon-ish” going forward — hah! It was the kind of day where your cheeks hurt from smiling and your hands from all the high-fives.

To every single runner: thank you for bringing the absolute best hype. We’re still buzzing.

Gratitude to Our Community & Supporters

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the brands, volunteers, and community members who showed up in such a big way. A massive thank you to everyone who helped bring the Coastal Yeehaw Half to life:

Nate from @tlaoquiaht.tribal.parks — for invaluable support.

@tofinoresortandmarina — for providing the green space.

@shelterrestaurant — for the perfect après spot and snacks.

@tofinocoffeeroastingcompany — for the much-needed post-run coffee and treats.

@alex.beebe and Jesse — the dream registration team.

@brodypigeau and the E-bike squad — for disaster control, first aid, and unmatched vibes.

All water stations and checkpoint crews — your energy truly carried the runners.

@jenny_mc — for her continued support and the curated training plan.

@jessssleb — for the best pre- and post-run stretch and for holding it down as bartender.

@kylervos, @andiwardrop, @embaxtermedia, and @pacificrimeventphotography — for crushing the event media (and delivering photos the same day!).

We are deeply grateful for the beautiful land we get to enjoy and share these moments on.

What's Next?

We’ve already been asked if the Coastal Yeehaw Half will return next year — and the answer is YES. In the meantime, we’re gearing up to kick off planning for Whistler this fall. If you’re feeling inspired and want to join, stay tuned — more information coming soon.

Yeehaw Half Marathon Recap:

We're thrilled to reflect on the SECOND ANNUAL YEEHAW HALF MARATHON!

Huge congratulations to all the incredible participants who brought the energy and enthusiasm! Over 75 runners came together to conquer the 21.1km course in beautiful Whistler, BC.

What truly sets the Yeehaw Half apart is the unforgettable atmosphere. Smiles were abundant, high-fives exchanged freely, and the supportive spirit was contagious. It's a powerful reminder of the joy found in running alongside a like-minded community.

For many, this was a monumental first – their initial half marathon and race experience! The Yeehaw Half embraces inclusivity, fostering a welcoming environment where newcomers feel comfortable taking the plunge. We aim to break down barriers and provide a platform to connect with fellow running enthusiasts.

We understand that signing up for a major race can be daunting. That's why we offer a fun, supportive space for participants to embark on this journey. Our custom 12-week training plan (available online!), designed by Jenny Mc, was instrumental in guiding runners towards their goal throughout the summer.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteers – you're the backbone of this event! Their dedication ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Big thanks to our incredible sponsors who helped make this event possible! All participants received goodie bags, and an exciting post-race raffle took place at the après festivities. A shoutout to:

  • Arvin Goods
  • Gibbons Whistler
  • Keen Canada
  • Sunii Energy
  • WATER WATER WATER
  • Guayaki
  • My Human Essentials
  • Adidas Terrex
  • Oakley
  • Lululemon

Special thanks to Sam Tuff for the fantastic après DJ set, and to Blackcomb Pub and Gibbons Whistler for hosting us!

Finally, a huge thank you to Mirae Campbell for capturing the event's spirit in her amazing photos!

We can't wait to do it all again next year! Stay tuned for details.

Stay Connected!

YEEHAW HALF 2023 by Natural Freedom

Looking back on our biggest event yet, the Yeehaww Half Marathon held on September 23rd! With over 55 individuals, we embarked on a 21.1km journey through Whistler, braving both sunshine and rain.

The atmosphere was electric, filled with smiles, countless high fives, and unwavering encouragement throughout the entire adventure. For many participants, this marked their very first half marathon and race experience. Our mission with this event was to cultivate a welcoming, unsanctioned race that fosters community bonds and provides an opportunity for like-minded individuals to connect. Recognizing the intimidation that can come with signing up for a major race, we aimed to create a fun and supportive space for everyone to step out of their comfort zones and work towards a shared goal throughout the summer.

Every participant had the opportunity to follow a curated 12-week training plan to ensure physical preparedness for the event.

Our exceptional volunteers deserve so much recognition for their unwavering dedication in keeping spirits high, ensuring everyone remained hydrated, and guiding racers along the course as our chalk markings began to fade.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our sponsors for their invaluable support:

We eagerly anticipate the launch of the second annual Yeehaw Half Marathon.
